Bangkok: I love Chatuchak market

I love markets and this is by far the largest market I’ve ever been to and my favourite in Bangkok. With 15,000+ stalls, Chatuchak market (JJ Market) is one of the biggest in Asia. You can buy anything here.

Usually I prefer to wonder around the outside because that’s where the food and drink is. I can be found drinking Thai Tea or eating coconut ice cream.

My favourite area of this market is tucked away on the edge. You walk down a narrow path and when you reach the end you are surrounded by reproductions of antiques and lots of quirky furniture.

I visit Chatuchak every 3 months… I leave each trip with a little more knowledge and a lot less cash. This market is only open on weekends.

If you see something you like, just buy it. Unless you have been a few times, you probably won’t find your way back. So, you will go home kicking yourself for missing out on that amazing ‘I love Mom’ T-Shirt.

How to get here

Get a train, the market is conveniently located next to the Mo Chit BTS (sky train)and Chatuchak Park MRT (metro) stations.

After visiting this market we usually catch the air conditioned sky train to Siam, where we walk around the malls.

Opening hours are 6am–6pm, so either get there early or go after 2 pm. It is rather hot in-between.

Other Markets in Bangkok

Pak Klong Talad Flower Market, Klong Toey Wet Market, Talad Phlu, Nang Lerng, Ratchawat Foodie Markets, Mahachai Seafood & Railway Market, Tor Kor Market.

One evening after work I decided to visit the supermarket and treat myself to some food. This encounter led onto many adventures.
